Voice Acting

...Complete! A HUGE thanks to Angie Wheeler, Matt Ross Crafton, Tim Williams, Owen Fogg and Leani Lopez for helping contribue to a fantastic cast of characters. It's thrilling to hear the citizens of the Monomythverse truly come to life! :)

The next step is probably the longest one...locations. We're creating custom "level maps" to use in the film, which is an exciting but high-focus process. Perceptive viewers may have noticed that the current promo videos are using existing Dragon Age maps. Our intention is to step away from that for the film itself, as we are also doing with the score.

When complete, we also hope to have the soundtrack available for anyone who may be interested in purchasing it. You can hear some snippets of it in the promo videos.

Speaking of which, expect to get a preview of the exile Branth in the next teaser clip, coming soon to a computer near you. :)

First look at Monomyth!

The second animation test, featuring a short interaction between Alexander and Anaethin. Yesterday, all of the voices by the co-writer/director and I were recorded. Today, throat lozenges are our friends.

The test was produced out of context for the sake of seeing a video clip make it entirely through the pre-, mid-, and post-production process. The final scene will be a bit different than this. For the sake of the test, the location and music are pre-existing BioWare/Dragon Age: Origins creations.

From the first animation test...

An old model of a slightly more clean-shaven Tomas in the first MONOMYTH full-production voice and animation test.

Currently on the agenda are a few final lesser/extra character models, locations, music, and in the immediate future: voice acting! Everything seems to be looking good :)

First Draft Complete!

Alternate post title: Insomnia Is Your Friend

After roughly three weeks of solid writing, the 125-page first draft screenplay for MONOMYTH: The Relic is complete. Readthroughs with the co-writer/director will take a large part of the next two or three weeks, with final revisions going into place on our end. Looking forward to seeing what the voice actors bring to the table. The plot is solid, but there's nothing fresher than a good ad-lib now and then.

Typing the final "E. N. D." in the middle of page 125, I couldn't help but hear this in my head:

Elthariel and Taiumor

Elthariel and Taiumor of the Nethara Eloras, the Elves of the Northern Wood.

One hundred and four pages of script, just entering into Act III. Act II closes with what will probably be my favorite scene in the entire film. Progress!

The Organic Writing Process

Hey everybody!

We're one week in on writing the screenplay for the first draft of MONOMYTH: The Relic. At this point: 45+ pages of script, and roughly a quarter of the way through the film. Thoughts continue to sprout up, confirming our inital thoughts that MONOMYTH will undoubtedly become a multi-film series.

Perhaps the most intriguing discovery while working on the scripting for this film, unlike previous Snow Bear Studios mini-projects, is the organic development of it all.

MONOMYTH is a character tale. In essence, the film, and the entire series, is based on the very natural reactions and interactions of people. Pivotal themes range from the everyday topics of friendships, alienation, discrimination, trust, and love.

About one year ago, the first seeds of the MONOMYTH series were sown. The premise was born: an everyman with a thirst for adventure, his reluctant but supportive friend, and a band of outcasts come together and find themselves in a life-changing journey. In the past few months, the search for the best voice actors, the shaping of the characters' digital physiques, and the detailing of their very thoughts have all given the spark of life to our heroes: Alexander, Tomas, Smithington, Branth, and Anaethin.

Most of this last spring was devoted to the collection of a years' worth of ideas into one single story. The genre of the film began to slip from a stapstick, blatant satire of fantasy cliches into a true, living multi-part legend of ancient wars and majestic kingdoms. Almost beyond our control, plot points began to connect themselves and lead to even greater tales within the MONOMYTH universe.

The scriptwriting itself has almost turned into a reality series. The characters are placed in their setting, but the dialogue is their own. A few scenes have altered themselves as the characters grow and shape their own tale. It will be interesting to see what the voice actors bring to the table as they supply the final, but vital, breath of existence.

Our role as writers has ended. The story is now in the hands of the heroes and villains of MONOMYTH: The Relic.
